Who is P. Dean McFadden?

Vice-Admiral P. Dean McFadden, CMM, CD is a retired officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was Chief of the Maritime Staff from 2009 to 2011.

Previously, Vice-Admiral McFadden served as Commander of Canada Command and as the Commander of Maritime Forces Atlantic, as well as Commander of Joint Task Force Atlantic.

Vice-Admiral McFadden was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland as the youngest of four boys. He was educated at Belfast Royal Academy before his family emigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia when he was a teenager. McFadden attended Argyle Senior Secondary. McFadden is married to Eva McFadden from Bedford, Nova Scotia and has two children.

In July 2011, in anticipation of his retirement from the Canadian Forces, McFadden was replaced as Chief of the Maritime Staff by Vice-Admiral Paul Maddison. McFadden retired at the end of the summer after completing 37 years of military service. He was awarded the Order of Military Merit.
