Who is P. Thyagarayar?

Sir P. Thyagarayar was founder of a movement called Then Nala Urimai Sangam. The movement was formally found on 20 November 1916 at Chennai, India. Thyagarayar was also instrumental in founding Justice Party and Justice Party came to power in 1921 in the first Assembly elections of Madras Presidency, winning 63 out of 98 seats.

Thyagarayar Nagar which means the city of Thyagarayar, which is one of the most prominent central business districts of Chennai, South India, is named after Sir P. Thyagarayar.
