Who is Phil Apollo?
Phil Panos, known by his ringname Phil Apollo, is an American professional wrestler who competed in North American independent wrestling promotions including International World Class Championship Wrestling and World Class Championship Wrestling. During the 1980s, he teamed with Gary Hart as New Age Management in WCCW and Eric Sbraccia as the Dynamic Duo, winning the IWCCW Tag Team titles twice. The Dynamic Duo tagline was a tribute by Sbraccia and Apollo to Gentleman Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez, with Apollo often emulating Adams and using his finishing move, the superkick, on occasion.
During the early 1990s, Apollo competed as a preliminary wrestler in the World Wrestling Federation most notably facing Adam Bomb with manager Johnny Polo in their debut on Monday Night Raw in 1993. He has often been claimed to have been one of several men to have portrayed Doink the Clown. However this has been disputed in favor of Ray Liachelli who subsequently played the character in independent promotions following the character's retirement in 1995.
