Who was Prakash Tandon?
Prakash Tandon was one of India's most influential business leaders in the second half of the 20th century. He also attained fame for his classic account of Punjabi life in the autobiographical book "Punjabi Century," the first part of a trilogy of which the next two parts were "Beyond Punjab and "Return to Punjab".
He directed Hindustan Lever during the important transitional phase of Indian management. He was the first Indian Chairman of Hindustan Lever Ltd.. A Chartered Accountant, trained in London, he was one of the pioneers of professional management in India. He also served as the chairman of the State Trading Corporation and is credited with earning distinction as a PSU manager for his efficiency and honesty.
