Who was Richard A. Gardner?

Richard Alan Gardner (April 28, 1931 – May 25, 2003) was a clinical professor of psychiatry in the Division of Child Psychiatry at Columbia University from 1963 until his death in 2003. He was known for coining the term Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) in 1985, a highly controversial theory. He also operated a company, Creative Therapeutics, Inc., that marketed materials based on his theories.
