Who is Roar Ljøkelsøy?
Roar Ljøkelsøy is a Norwegian ski jumper. Ljøkelsøy's early career was not particularly brilliant. While considered almost flawless technically, he did not win an individual World Cup event until 25 January 2003, at age 26. However, he was very consistent at a high level in both 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 seasons, always finishing second in the World Cup table behind Finland's Janne Ahonen. In 2003/2004, he won 7 out of the last 11 World Cup competitions, finishing 10 points short of Ahonen. In addition to winning 11 individual and 3 team World Cup competitions, he became the individual ski-flying world champion in Planica in 2004. In the same event, Ljøkelsøy also won the team event with teammates Tommy Ingebrigtsen, Bjørn Einar Romøren and Sigurd Pettersen. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2005, he won a silver medal in the individual large hill and a bronze medal in the team large hill. In 2006, Ljøkelsøy retained his ski-flying world championship in Kulm, Bad Mitterndorf, winning with over 20 points to the next competitor, despite being sick. The next day, he led the Norwegian team to another Ski-flying World Championship in the Team event, together with his teammates Tommy Ingebrigtsen, Bjørn Einar Romøren and Lars Bystøl. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, Ljøkelsøy won a silver in the team large hill and a bronze in the individual large hill.
