Who is Robert Atwell?
Robert Ronald Atwell is the current Anglican Bishop of Stockport.
Atwell was born in 1954 in Ilford, Essex, and educated at the St John's College, Durham and Westcott House, Cambridge. He was ordained as a priest of the Church of England in 1979. His career began with a curacy at John Keble Church, Mill Hill, after which he was chaplain of Trinity College, Cambridge from 1981 to 1987. He then spent ten years as a Benedictine monk at Burford Priory in Oxfordshire, and finally was Vicar of St Mary’s, Primrose Hill.
Bishop Robert was consecrated at York Minster on 24 June 2008 and welcomed into the Diocese on 27 June 2008 at Chester Cathedral.
On 21 January 2014 it was announced that he would be translated to be Bishop of Exeter.
