Who was Robert Russell?

Robert Russell was an architect and surveyor, active in Australia. He is credited with conducting the first survey of the city of Melbourne in 1836 and determining its unique design. In 1969, the Victorian chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects named their St. Kilda Road property 'Robert Russell House' in recognition of his work. He was also a prolific and talented artist and his work is held by major libraries and galleries in Australia.
