Who is Robert Wickens?
Robert Tyler Wickens is a Canadian racing driver, currently driving in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge for Bryan Herta Autosport . Wickens was formerly a part of the revitalized Mercedes-Benz Junior Team, together with Christian Vietoris and Roberto Merhi. In 2009 he finished in second place in the FIA Formula Two Championship, and in 2010 he was runner-up in the GP3 Series. In his return to Formula Renault 3.5, where he competed in 2008, he won the 2011 season championship with Carlin Motorsport, with backing of Marussia. Wickens then left the series to race in the DTM. With 6 wins to his credit in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters for Mücke Motorsport, Wickens moved on to a stunning entrance in the Indycar series posting 4 podiums and top rookie honors at the Indy 500 in 2018. Later that year, Wickens suffered a horrific crash at Pocono and bruised his spinal cord, causing paralysis to his legs. Remarkably, he has made a return to racing in grand touring competition with intentions of entering a car in the 2024 Indianapolis 500. Wickens -who remains a wheelchair-bound paraplegic but can stand with some support- is able to compete as a driver through advanced hand controls.
