Who was Rufus Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading?
Rufus Daniel Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading, GCB GCSI GCIE GCVO PC KC was the Viceroy of India, barrister, jurist and the last Liberal Foreign Secretary. As such Lord Reading was the first religiously-practising Jew to be appointed to the British Cabinet and as a Marquess he and his direct male heirs outrank the title of the family of Benjamin Disraeli, who was elevated to an earldom.
