S.K.Balakrishnan, was Mayor of Madurai, Tamil Nadu between 1980-1981. He is from Sourashtra community with Family name "SOMIN". He lost his father at his young age and his mother Late smt "S.K.Nagalammal" brought him up with her courageous efforts. He grew up with the guidance of his elder brothers Late Sri.S.K.Subbaraman and Late.Sri.S.K.Rajaram. He belongs to ADMK Party and very close to then the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Late Sri. M. G. Ramachandran Popularly known as MGR.
