Who is Sir John Drummond of Slipperfield and Hawthornden?
Younger son of Sir Robert Drummond of Carnock, architect to James VI of Scotland, Sir John Drummond married Susanna Fowler, daughter of Edinburgh money lender Janet Fockhart. Their son was the poet William Drummond of Hawthornden. Susanna's brother was secretary to Queen Anne wife of King James I and a poet in his own right. Sir John was 'usher to the king's inner door' a post which which he held for many years until King James moved to England in 1602.
