Who was Stanley McKenzie?
Matthew Stanley McKenzie was an Australian first-class cricketer and Australian rules footballer.
A right-handed opening batsman, he played five first-class matches for Tasmania between 1910 and 1913.
He was recruited by Australia rules club Carlton in 1914, playing 14 VFL games, including a Preliminary Final, and kicking 6 goals. The Tasmanian had represented his state at the 1911 Adelaide Carnival, while playing with Launceston.
McKenzie signed with the AIF as a medical orderly during the war and spent some time at Gallipoli before being moved to Alexandria in Egypt. He suffered appendicitis while in Egypt and lost his life.
