Who is Tharman Shanmugaratnam?

Tharman Shanmugaratnam is a Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party, he is the country's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance. He is also Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He previously served as the Minister for Education from 2003 to 2008. He has been a Member of Parliament representing the Jurong Group Representation Constituency since 2001.

In March 2011, Tharman was appointed the Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee, the policy steering committee of the International Monetary Fund. He was also admitted to the Group of Thirty in June 2008.
