Who was Thomas Hawker?
Thomas Hawker was an English portrait painter of the late 17th and early 18th century. Art historians have no information on the life of this artist, except that he apparently worked at the royal court.
Five of his portraits are being preserved and shown at the National Portrait Gallery of London, the most famous being that of King Charles II of England. Other works include a series of portraits of Titus Oates, as well as a portrait of Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Grafton, the son of the king.
