Who was Ugo Falena?
Ugo Falena, was an Italian silent film director and occasional opera librettist. His films include Otello, Beatrice Cenci, William Tell, Romeo & Juliet, and a notable adaptation of Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana featuring the soprano who sang at the premiere of the opera, itself, Gemma Bellincioni. He also wrote the libretto for Alfano's opera, L’ultimo Lord.
