Who is Uschi Keszler?

Uschi Keszler is a former West German figure skater and current international figure-skating coach and choreographer.

Uschi Keszler became German champion in 1965. She was forced to end her skating career in 1966, at the age of 17, when she contracted tuberculosis, causing her to spend eight months in hospital. She wanted to continue but no physician allowed her to do so.

At the age of 18, Keszler moved to the U.S. and began coaching. She married Aram Boornazian. The couple have a son, Marc. In 1998 Uschi Keszler became a grandmother.

Keszler is known primarily for her work with Canadian skaters Brian Orser, Elvis Stojko, and Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz. She is known for inventing the term "hydroblading" to refer to skating on deep edges low to the ice, and using it as a training technique.

Keszler works currently at the Ice Works rink in Aston, Pennsylvania. She survived breast and uterine cancer and founded Uschi Keszler's Pennies-in-Action Cancer Research Fund.
