Who was V. Navaratnam?

Vaithianathan Navaratnam was a Sri Lankan Tamil politician and Member of Parliament.

Navaratnam was one of the founding members of the Federal Party. He unsuccessfully contested the Kayts constituency in the 1952 elections for the Sri Lankan Parliament.

Navaratnam won the 1963 by-election held in Kayts after the death of V. A. Kandiah, the sitting MP. He retained the seat at the March 1965 elections.

Navaratnam left the Federal Party in 1969. He unsuccessfully contested the Kayts constituency as an independent candidate in the 1970 and 1977 elections.

Navaratnam was posthumously conferred the title of Naattu Patralar by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
