Who is Yisroel Schulman?

Yisroel Schulman, Esq. is the President & Attorney-in-Charge of the New York Legal Assistance Group, a 501 not-for-profit organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income New Yorkers. Mr. Schulman has been the President of NYLAG since its founding in 1990 and has spent his entire legal career in the realm of public interest law.

Mr. Schulman holds a B.A. from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a J.D. from Benjamin Cardozo Law School. In 1999 he was the inaugural winner of Cardozo’s Alumni Achievement Award.

Prior to his inception of NYLAG, Mr. Schulman was a faculty member at the Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School of Yeshiva University. Concurrently, Mr. Schulman served as the Supervising Attorney for Cardozo Bet Tzedek Legal Services. Earlier, as staff attorney for the JASA Legal Assistance Program, Mr. Schulman represented senior citizens on a broad variety of matters including Medicaid, home care, public benefits, housing and guardianship. He continues to lecture regularly to groups of elderly individuals on the legal issues affecting them and sits on the Board of Directors of several charitable agencies.

Yisroel Schulman has served as lead counsel for over one dozen federal and state court class actions and is a member of the American, New York State, New Jersey, District of Columbia, and New York City Bar Associations. He also holds admittance to the Federal Courts Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District Court of New Jersey, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
