Who is Mariyam Kaba'afa'anu Rani Kilege?

Mariyam Kaba'afa'anu Rani Kilege, was a Sultana consort of the Maldives, married to sultan Ibrahim Iskander I of the Maldives. She was regent of the Maldives during the minority of her son sultan Kuda Muhammad of the Maldives from 1687 until 1691.

Mariyam was suspected of having murdered her late spouse by poison. In 1691, during a boat trip, she was killed near Dunidu Island when a spark from a victory salute caused the gunpowder at the royal vessel to explode. Her son died shortly after of the wounds he sustained during the explosion.
