Who was Hopere Uru?
John Hopere Wharewiti Uru was a Māori of Ngāi Tahu and an Independent Member of Parliament in New Zealand.
He won the Southern Maori seat in the 1918 by-election when he defeated Taare Parata, and held it to 1921, when he died. He was succeeded by his brother Henare Uru.
