Who was Qian Chu?
Qian Chu, born Qian Hongchu, was the last King of Wuyue, a kingdom in southern-eastern China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period of Chinese history. Qian Chu pledged allegiance to the Song Dynasty in 978, avoiding certain annihilation from northern imperial Chinese troops and saving his people from war and economic destruction.
