Who was Aleksandr Petrov?
Aleksandr Pavlovich Petrov was one of the first tall centers in Soviet basketball. Playing for the Soviet team he won silver medals at the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics, a bronze medal at the 1963 FIBA World Championship, as well as four European titles in 1959, 1961, 1963 and 1965. He was named best center at the 1963 world championships. After retirement he coached basketball teams in Moscow and later in Madagaskar. For his achievements he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour.
