Ayşe Hatun I
Female, Deceased Person
1453 – 1504
Who was Ayşe Hatun I?
A’ishā Hātun, was the fourth wife of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II and the stepmother of Selim I. She was born in 1453 as the daughter of Alaüddevle Bozkurt Bey, the eleventh ruler of the Dulkadirids centered around Elbistan in Maraş. She was married to Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II in 1469 at Amasya, and died in 1504 long before Selim I’s accession to the Ottoman throne.
Although it has been asserted by some researchers that Ayşe Hatun might be the biological mother of Yavuz Sultan Selim, the most recent investigations revealed that the actual biological mother of Selim I is Gülbahar Hatun, who had died two years before her son’s accession to the throne.
