Who is Lisbet Rausing?

Dr Lisbet Rausing is a Swedish historian of science and philanthropist.

She is the daughter of Tetra Pak entrepreneur Hans Rausing and his wife Märit Rausing. She has one sister, Sigrid Rausing, and one brother, Hans Kristian Rausing. She was educated at the University of California at Berkeley and Harvard University.

Rausing is the author of a scholarly biography of Carl Linnaeus published in 1999 – Linnaeus: Nature and Nation – as well as numerous scholarly articles. She holds honorary doctorates from Uppsala University, Imperial College and SOAS, and is a fellow of the Linnean Society and the Royal Historical Society. In 2006 she was elected an Honorary Fellow of the British Academy.

Lisbet Rausing co-founded the Arcadia Fund in 2001. As of June 2014, the Fund had made grant commitments of over $326 million to preserve endangered treasures of culture and nature.

She is a vice-president of conservation charity Fauna & Flora International.
