Who is Nancy Seaman?

Nancy Seaman was a Farmington Hills, Michigan teacher at Longacre Elementary School who was convicted of first-degree murder in a highly publicized murder trial in 2005 for killing her husband with a hatchet. She argued that she killed her husband in self-defense although prosecutors alleged that the murder was premeditated. She is currently serving her life sentence at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility. Her case has been cited as an example of battered women receiving ineffective legal counsel and some groups have advocated clemency.
