Who is S. E. Ellis?
S. E. Ellis was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club in 1902. His name appears in contemporary and later records of the single match in which he played, but he has not been identified and details of his birth and death are not known.
Ellis's single appearance for Somerset came in the match against Lancashire at Old Trafford in June 1902, a tight match won by Somerset by just nine runs. Ellis batted at No 7 in the first innings and scored 5; in the second innings he was at No 9 and failed to score. Beaumont Cranfield took 14 wickets in the match, and Ernie Robson the other six, so even if Ellis was a bowler, which is unknown, his bowling was not needed in this match.
