Who is Susan Crown?

Susan Crown is an executive, foundation chair, and community activist in Chicago.

Crown is Chairman of the Executive Committee of Illinois Tool Works, a diversified manufacturer of engineered products and specialty systems. She is also Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Rush University Medical Center, and chaired the Facilities Committee in instituting a $1 billion rebuild of its campus, including Chicago’s first LEED-certified hospital.

Crown is a partner of Henry Crown & Company, a Chicago-based firm that manages diversified investments in banking, manufacturing, healthcare, energy, real estate, and telecommunications, and a member of the Board of Directors of Northern Trust Corporation, and a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council, where she helped establish the first Midwestern office for a national environmental NGO.

She recently co-chaired CARE’s national conference on global poverty in Washington, D.C., where legislation on food programs, child marriage and global warming were introduced in the U.S. House and Senate. Crown served for 26 years as Chairman of the Arie and Ida Crown Memorial, a foundation focused in areas including urban education, human services, healthcare, cultural arts and the Middle East.
