Thomas Hassan

Who is Thomas Hassan?

Thomas E. Hassan is the 14th Principal of Phillips Exeter Academy and the 2nd First Gentleman of New Hampshire as the husband of Governor Maggie Hassan.

A graduate of Brown University, Hassan earned his master’s and doctorate degrees at Harvard University. He joined Exeter’s faculty as the director of college counseling in 1989. An experienced administrator and teacher, he has also served the school as dean of admissions. In 2011, the New York Observer named him as one of 24 "Elite Private School Power Players".

Hassan lives in Exeter, New Hampshire on the PEA campus with his wife and their two children. On July 1st 2014, Hassan announced that he would retire at the end of the 2014-2015 academic year.
