Who is Vladimir Kvachkov?

Vladimir Vasilievich Kvachkov is an ex-colonel of Spetsnaz, and a high-ranked officer with the Russian Military Intelligence service. He became widely known after he was arrested and charged with an attempted assassination of Russian politician and businessman Anatoly Chubais in 2005. After three years of imprisonment he was acquitted on 5 June 2008. Kvachkov himself did not admit or deny his leading role in the assassination attempt, instead making a statement in which he declared that he does not consider the killing attempt a criminal action, or even a misdemeanor. On the contrary, said Kvachkov, the elimination of Chubais is absolutely inevitable and justified, as is national upheaval and overthrowing of the present government.
