Who is Abhijit Mukherjee?
Abhijit Mukherjee is an Indian politician who serves as Member of Parliament from the Jangipur in the Indian state of West Bengal. He is a member of the Indian National Congress.
Mukherjee won the Jangipur by—election by 2,536 votes defeating his nearest CPI rival Muzaffar Hussain on 13 October 2012. He polled 332,919 votes, while the CPI candidate bagged 330,383 votes as per the Election Commission sources. The seat was vacated by his father President Pranab Mukherjee after he was elevated to the highest office of the country.
