Who was Alfonso Catá?
Alfonso Catá was a Cuban dancer, choreographer and ballet artistic director.
Catá was born in Havana. He attended the School of American Ballet in New York. During his career he performed with many different companies; Joffrey Ballet, Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas, Stuttgart Ballet and the New York City Ballet. He was also director of the Geneva Ballet, Frankfurt Ballet and the Baltimore Ballet.
In 1983 Catá was the founding director of Ballet du Nord, he directed the company until his death.
