William "Billy" Gore born in Blaina, was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1940s, playing representative level rugby union for Wales, and at club level for Newbridge RFC, as a Hooker, i.e. number 2, and playing club level rugby league for Warrington, as a Hooker, i.e. number 9, during the era of contested scrums, he died in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny
