Who is CJ Werleman?

CJ Werleman is an Australian born atheist author, columnist, and U.S political and social commentator.

In 2003, Werleman migrated to Bali, Indonesia. In 2005, he witnessed the twin suicide bomb attacks on Bali's Jimbaran Beach and it was this experience that piqued his interest in studying religious fanaticism and fundamentalism of all faiths.

In October 2009, his debut book was published, God Hates You. Hate Him Back. As the subtitle suggests, the book is a tour of the Old and New Testaments of the Christian Bible. Werleman says, “The objective of the book is to provide the reader with a thorough understanding of the Bible, from end-to-end, while also demonstrating that the ‘God’ people worship so readily and unquestioningly is a vengeful bully, with a monopoly on evil. Which I guess is primarily why the Devil had no reason to publish his own book.”

God Hates You. Hate Him Back reached #1 on Amazon for the category of atheism and as such he is now considered one of the entertaining voices of the new atheism movement. What makes Werleman unique among fellow contemporaries such as luminaries Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, however, is he explains religious theology with a view to making people laugh at what he believes are the absurdities of religious beliefs. "The reason I have retold the Biblical stories with a comedic approach is simple, how can one not resist? If you can’t make fun of the Bible as a tool of inspiration then you are going to struggle to make light of any topic."
