Dave Marr

Who is Dave Marr?

Dave Marr is Chief Counsel to Sun's Open Source Group and Global

Engineering practices. In his open source role, he is responsible for

open source licensing strategy, its associated legal ramifications,

driving policy and process change to address open source risk factors,

and manages a variety of open source legal matters for Sun within the

US and internationally. In support of Global Engineering, Dave is

responsible for planning and managing the needed legal support the

rapidly growing global engineering centers, with a focus on St.

Petersburg, Prague, Beijing and Bangalore. He manages a team of

international in-house lawyers aligned with the mission to enable

research, development, and engineering collaboration for Sun worldwide.

Dave also manages the legal team who supports Sun's Microelectronics

group, which includes the industry leading multicore, multi-threaded

RISC technologies. Relative to that role, Dave also supports the legal

effort to support Sun's ongoing participation in the OpenSPARC open

source community. Dave concentrates his practice in the

area of software licensing, semiconductor legal issues, open source

commercialization strategies, and emerging areas of international IP

law. Prior to Sun, Dave worked for a variety of high technology

companies in the Silicon Valley of California.
