Who is Dona Catherina of Kandy?
Dona Catherina was Queen of Kandy in the sixteenth century, who ruled in 1581. She succeeded her father Karaliyadde Bandara as king of Kandy. She was deposed by Rajasinha I of the Kingdom of Sitawaka in the same year she took the throne.
she Later became the Queen Consort to King Wimaladharmasuriya the first after defeat of King Rajasinhe the 1st and consecatively also to King Senarath Bandara who succeeded to throne After King Wimaladharmasuriya. she had an issue from him who later succeeded his Father As King Rajasinhe the 2nd, who famously made agreenment with Dutches to end up the Portuguese regime. Though at the Coronation she have to convert back to Buddhism As Queen and Consort of the Buddhist king, She have faithfully pracatised catholism secretly to her subjects in her whole life.
