Fiona Tan

Who is Fiona Tan?

Fiona Tan, is an artist in photography as well as film and video installations. She grew up in Australia and currently lives in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunst and teaches at the postgraduate academy De Ateliers. Tan's artistic inspirations include post-colonial identities, and the sensibilities of European ethnographers who portray non-Western peoples as exotic. Some of Tan's video installations, such as Island, appear to blur the boundaries between photography and film, questioning the qualities that separate still images from moving ones.
