Who was Fons Brydenbach?
Alfons Brydenbach (1954-2009) was a Belgian sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres, and he was a former World Indoor record holder over that distance. He also ran 100 metres and 200 metres with success. He won a gold medal at the 1974 European Indoor Championships. Brydenbach also won the gold medal at the 1977 Summer Universiade.
Sadly, he died in 2009 from cancer of the bladder, aged 54.
