Who was Fred Nidd?

George Frederick "Fred" Nidd was an English professional footballer. He played for a large number of clubs in the Football League and Southern League in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His primary position was as a full back, but he did play professionally in goal for Grimsby Town, as well as for four consecutive league matches for Watford. After retiring, Nidd remained in the town of Watford. He played for the reserves, and made a return to the first team as a goalkeeper during the First World War.
