Who is Frederick Smith?
Sir Frederick Smith, KA MBE, QC is the former Attorney-General of Barbados and former Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands, president of the Court of Appeal of Grenada and assistant Attorney General of Cameroon.
He worked in Jamaica and directly with the Foreign Office in England on revising the Cayman Islands constitution.
Smith is a founding member of the Democratic Labour Party; he served on the first Provisional General Council and as the first party Chairman from 1955 to 1956. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in November 1987.
Sir Frederick has been outspoken in saying it is time for Barbados to do away with its affiliation with the Barbadian monarchy and to become an independent republic.
