Who is Gilbert Kaburu?
Gilbert Kaburu is a Ugandan swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. At age twenty-six, Kaburu made his official and only debut for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he swam in the men's 50 m freestyle event. He finished seventh in the fourth heat by thirteen hundredths of a second, behind Nepal's Prasiddha Jung Shah, with a time of 27.72 seconds. Kaburu, however, failed to advance into the semi-finals, as he placed eighty-second out of ninety-seven swimmers in the overall rankings.
Shortly after the Olympics, Kaburu announced his retirement from swimming career, to continue his education at TCNJ’s Graduate Global Programs in Johannesburg, South Africa.
