Who is Graham Jackson?

Graham Jackson was a British conductor, and Music Director of the theatres of Mönchengladbach and Krefeld.

Jackson was born in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset. After studying at Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1985 to 1988 Jackson spent three years learning conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In 1992 he was appointed to the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, where he worked until 2000 as the conductor. He also made guest appearances including at the Komische Oper Berlin, Opera Northern Ireland, the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, where Bastille Opera in Paris, the Frankfurt Opera, the Hamburg State Opera and the Vienna Volksoper.

Jackson has performed as a concert conductor with the Hallé Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestras. In addition to the repertoire as a conductor, Jackson also made a name of important premieres, including the works of François Sarhan, Charlotte Seither, Stefan Heucke and Sidney Corbett.

From 2000 to 2003 he was engaged as principal conductor at the Theater Bremen. Since the season 2003/2004 Graham Jackson served as music director of the Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach and performed for the last time as a conductor in both cities beginning in July 2012. He died in Cambridge, aged 45
