Who is Hans Ek?
Hans Ek, born in 1964 in Uppsala, Sweden, is a conductor and arranger working in the meeting between classical music, jazz, pop and folk music.
He has worked with the leading symphony orchestras in Sweden, as well as orchestras in Norway, Denmark, England, Canada, Lithuania and Turkey.
Ek has also worked with a wide range of musicians and singers in jazz, pop and folk music. For example Salem Al Fakir, Magnus Lindgren, Tommy Körberg, Anders Widmark, The Real Group, Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Georg Wadenius, Malena Ernman, Rebecka Törnqvist, Christian Lindberg, Stefano di Battista, Louise Hoffsten, Ale Möller and Dreamers' Circus.
Ek has in recent years been musical director of the Polar Music Prize ceremony and has worked with artists such as Ane Brun, Robyn and Barbara Hendricks.
Ek has appeared on CD recordings with Peter LeMarc, Helen Sjöholm, Salem Al Fakir, Mikael Samuelson, Christian Lindberg, English cabaret trio The Tiger Lillies, Norwegian folk music group Kvarts and others.
In recent years he has also devoted his time to film music. He has orchestrated and recorded music for films such as Let the Right One In directed by Tomas Alfredson, Troubled Water, A Man Comes Home, Effi Briest, At Point Blank, and Tannöd.
