Who is Joseph Crabtree?
Joseph Crabtree is a fictitious late 18th-/early 19th-century poet and polymath. His life story was invented in the early 1950s by academics of University College London. In February 1954 Professor James Sutherland, delivered an oration entitled “Homage to Crabtree”. Subsequent orations have been published.
