Who is Kaoru Hasuike?
Kaoru Hasuike is a Japanese citizen who was abducted by North Korean spies along with his girlfriend Yukiko Okudo. They were abducted from Kashiwazaki, Niigata, on July 19, 1978. He was a law student at the time. During their captivity in North Korea, Hasuike and Okudo were married on May 1980 and they had two children – a daughter and son. In October 15, 2002, the North Korean government allowed Hasuike,Okudo and other victims leave North Korea followed by their children in 2004. Haisuke wrote a book, Abduction and My Decision, about his experiences. Today he teaches Korean language at a university. His story and his brother Toru's life were adapted as a manga.
