Who is Leo Tilman?

Leo M. Tilman is an American financial executive and author. He is President & CEO of Tilman & Company, a global strategic advisory firm, Executive Chairman of Capitol Peak Asset Management, and adjunct professor at Columbia University.

Tilman is credited with predicting the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 by showing the unsustainable nature of global imbalances and behaviors in his book Financial Darwinism. He is a leading authority on corporate strategy, financial markets, and risk. In collaboration with Nobel Laureate Edmund Phelps, he co-authored a Harvard Business Review article that called for the creation of the First National Bank of Innovation as a remedy for restoring U.S. economic dynamism. In a 2012 European Financial Review article, he redefined risk intelligence and designated it “new essential competence” for financial institutions and investors who aspire to create lasting value and contribute to economies and societies. He is the creator of the Corporate Risk Scorecard, a holistic view of a company’s business model and risk profile similar to a food Nutrition Label.
