Lief received his Bachelors degree in neurobiology from Harvard, where he worked at the intersection of human embryonic stem cells and Parkinson's disease. Afterward, he continued this endevor at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute in Boston before joining the Stanford Neuroscience program.
