Who is Lisa Simeone?

Lisa Simeone is an American freelance radio host. She is possibly best known for hosting World of Opera, a radio show currently produced by the NPR-affiliate classical-music radio station WDAV in North Carolina.

Simeone also hosted Soundprint, a documentary show airing on NPR affiliate stations, until she was fired from the show on October 19, 2011. The firing was for alleged ethics code violations, which prohibit political activism by journalists. According to The Huffington Post,

Simeone, who lives in Baltimore, said she has been serving with about 50 people on a steering committee for an occupation protest on Pennsylvania Avenue [in Washington, D.C.] that's known as the October 2011 Movement. She said it is not connected to the Occupy Wall Street movement, but that they share similar philosophies.

Following Simeone's firing from Soundprint, NPR also stopped distributing World of Opera, the independently produced show that Simeone hosts. WDAV, which produces the show, immediately began distributing the program itself.
