Who is Mark Surman?

Mark Surman is an Internet activist, especially in the free software movement, and is the head of the Mozilla Foundation. He supports the notion of Open Philanthropy, which advocates the transparency of the operations of nonprofit organizations toward the public.

In 2009, Surman was the keynote speaker at the FOSDEM event. He has been a fellow of the Shuttleworth Foundation, and helped launch the news and discussion site rabble.ca. He also co-wrote CommonSpace: Beyond Virtual Community with Darren Wershler.

He is married to social entrepreneur Tonya Surman.
