Who is Mohamed Albuflasa?

Mohamed Yousif Rashid Albuflasa is a Bahraini poet, writer, former independent candidate for the Bahraini Parliament in the 2010 Parliamentary elections and a member of the Bahraini youth parliament. Formerly a Bahrain Defence Force officer, he is now employed in Crown prince court.

As a result of a speech he made to the Pearl Roundabout protests, Albuflasa became the first political prisoner in the Bahraini uprising. Albuflasa's speech was significant as a religiously conservative Salafi Sunni addressing protesters who were mostly Shia or secular Sunni Muslims.
